Kazakhstan Ministry of Public Health (www.mz.gov.kz) is the central executive body in the field of protection of public health, medical and pharmaceutical science, medical and pharmaceutical education, sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population, circulation of medicines, medical devices and medical equipment, quality control of medical services.

Implemented programs:

- "Salamatty Kazakhstan" state program on healthcare development in Kazakhstan for 2011-2015;

- Program on development of cancer care in Kazakhstan for 2012-2016.

Yelzhan Birtanov

Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan

 

 

Yelzhan Birtanov was born on Oct. 18, 1971, in the city of Dzhambul.

He graduated from the Alma-Ata State Medical Institute, the University of Arizona, the Russian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, the University Clinic of Charite (Germany), the University of Turan, Duke University, Fuqua School of Business (USA), holds a Master's degree of Global Executive MBA.

He is the Standout in Public Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Doctor of Medical Sciences.

He worked as a resuscitator in the emergency hospital in Almaty, head of the Republican Toxicology Center, chief toxicologist of the Ministry of Healthcare, director of the RSE Institute for Health Development at the Ministry of Healthcare, adviser to the Prime Minister, deputy chairman of the Board of National Medical Holding JSC, vice minister of Healthcare, headed the National Medical Holding JSC.

Since May 2014 he was chairman of the Board of the Center for Support of Public-Private Partnership Projects.

From Nov. 12, 2015 he was vice minister of healthcare and social development.

Since Jan. 25, 2017 he was minister of healthcare.

On Feb. 25, 2019, by the Decree of the President he was reassigned as minister of healthcare of Kazakhstan.
